Rob and Tammy feel deeply honoured to live their dream and continue this legacy with the support of the community. Filled with rich history and stories, the hotel holds a special place in their hearts, and they are truly excited to add a new chapter to its timeline.

Queenscliff is proclaimed The Town of Queenscliff

1887 - 1888
The Queenscliff Hotel is developed and opens
Architects Reed, Henderson and Smart design the hotel and builders Frogley. N and Robson and Sons commence construction in 1887. One year later and with the building close to completion, owners Mrs. Martha Nugent and Joseph Gosling move in.

1902 - 1960s
The Queenscliff Hotel changes with the times
Throughout most of the 90s, the hotel passes through multiple custodians, many of which made their own mark on the historic building. The hotel is modernised over time by removing fireplaces, switching out stained glass doors and covering tiled floors in orange carpet.

1978
Mietta’s comes to town
The hotel receives new owners – four business partners and three of which are sisters: Patricia O’Donnell, Robyn Cran, and Mietta O’Donnell, as well as Peter Cran (Robyn’s husband) and Tony Knox (Mietta’s husband). Mietta owns Mietta’s Restaurant in Melbourne and is brought to the heart of Queenscliff.

1995
The Queenscliff Hotel makes history
Historic Building Council Director endorses Building No. 1141, cementing The Queenscliff Hotel as an artifact of the local community.
2015 - 2022
The Queenscliff Hotel sits idle
After another change in ownership and having previously passed in at auction in 2010, the hotel is again put up for auction and purchased by Tony Steains and Petrina Steains, but it remains unopened.

2022 - Present
The restoration journey begins
The hotel is purchased by Rob and Tammy Charter and the three-year restoration journey begins to revitalise the heritage-listed building while adding modern touches.
